Topic : Cassette style rudder blade?

Has any one tried a cassette style rudder assembly? Also what are the rules with regards to the rudder am I right in saying that the only rule is maximum length? What is the max length.

The first rule about rules is knowing where to find them. The RYA publish the 2003 version (still!!!), your Merlin Rocket year book has the current version.

The only rule on rudders that I found on a quick skim through, is no double rudders. So you could make a 6 mtr rudder if you thought it might help (not fast at Salcombe though!)

(Mags, note the RYA moved them again, the link is correct below)

How about this one? For sale on the Twelve website. Geoff overbuilt it so it could be Merlin friendly...............

Hiya,

It is also worth noting that a rule change banning winged rudders is to be proposed at the AGM, so if you were thinking of going down that route, it may be as well to keep the shekels in the pocket for the moment!

I'd better be at that AGM then Graham - got a few other "interesting thoughts" that I want to talk to you about - are you attending Cookham?

Been speaking to Aardvard racing, they do a quality N12 daggerboard style rudder with cassette stock. Definitely on my "wants" list - T foil is an option ..... he he he.

Following extensive testing the N12 class can strongly recommend T foils at Salcombe. Their weed harvesting properties help keep the estuary clear for the other members of the fleet to enjoy.

Surely someone has developed a carbon-fibre weed stick to use on winged rudders by now?
