Does anyone know of anywhere to get sticky writing made up? Winders?? I need some for my new boatage. |
Hi Olly, |
Pracically any sign/graphics shop or lots of online services too, a quick search on google found this one below. http://signprint.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=244&Itemid=255 |
anywhere that has a vinyl cutter will be able to do it. |
The Welsh Harp have done them for me in the past. |
Exeter Branch Signs express URL attached http://www.signsexpress.co.uk/branchDetails.cfm?branchID=24 |
Steam Graphics in Hamble are good, speak to Anna, 023 8045 4276. She's good and not too expensive! |
I use www.funkymonkeyboatnames.co.uk. Excellent service and price. I have no connection with them. |
Ross got new sign writing for take it easy (still for sale by the way!!) done recently - give him a shout and find out where he got it from. |
Funky Monkey. See link. Not sure that cheap as prices quoted above, but have some really good designs. www.funkymonkeyboatnames.co.uk/ |
Funky monkey did some sail stickers for our training fleet's RS Vision main and its lasting very well. They were very helpful. |
+1 for Funky Monkey. Supplied the go-faster stripe for Misty (3404) last year (hasnt made any difference but looks nice). Cut to width on demand and not that expensive. |
Cheers for all the tips guys, Iv gone for the funky monkey on this one. It's for a new laser I'v just picked up to act as my bit on the side for when im not merlinining! |
I have a ply boat and I want to put the name on by hand (well by an arty son) should we Paint it on (What paint + varnish over the top) or Vinyl. Should/can I varnish over the letters later ? |
If you have the skill or can access it via your arty son or can afford it real signwriting by hand is sooooo much better, real gold leaf soooo much better too. If you use gold leaf do not varnish over and if you paint no need. |
Matt, Funky Monkey again. They can supply the paint to do the job, plus templates, stencils etc |
Good signwriters just use chalk no template etc. However us corinthians probably need all the help we can get! |
I cheated by downloading a picture of a Gannet from Google images and printed it to size, traced around it and cut it out of 3mm ply. I then painted the Gannet onto the ply in water colour using the original picture and then varnished over the whole thing to seal it. A couple of brass pins fixed it on. If the next owner in years to come wants to remove it then they can with ease. It's been on 2 years now and no sign of deterioration. Tricky on a plastic boat though!! http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.asp?folder=gallery/vintage&file=gannet_transom.jpg |
Just got my phone bill for November - old VAT rate - will wait until Monday to phone and complain!! |
BT has announced that |
Ah, but Garry, the person who removes that ply will expose a gannet-shaped patch of wood in a slightly different colour! |
Which will lead to another interesting thread on staining or bleaching timber! |
But so will painting directly on to the timber - indeed the paint will be into the grain!! |
The only solution is to use blu-tak, and move it around every week! |
The only solution seems to be the traditional one, not to change the name of the ship/boat/yacht/dinghy! |
