Topic : Ranelagh

Those of you who genuinely couldn't make it to Ranelagh because of the weather and others who chickened out because of a flurry or two of snow missed some of the best conditions Ranelagh have laid on for years.

With a moderate NW wind there was a dead beat with the tide to the upriver mark. The run back against the tide included a tricky decision about when to cross from the Middlesex side to the Surrey side. The racing was close, Alex Jackson and Chris? won in David Winder's boat, Duncan Salmon was second.

Afterwards Duncan said it was best race he's ever had Ranelagh.

Apologies, we felt that 3" of snow and a 4 hour drive back to Devon into more snow was too much for us, so we gave it a miss. Means that we'll come up for Wembley later in the year to get our Restricted Silver Tiller event.

Glad everyone that attended had a good sail.

It was a fantastic sail: the 1-mile long downwind leg back to the club was the best I have ever seen. A planing run in 15-20 knots of wind makes the boat really come alive. At some stage we were being followed by the rescue boat who (rumour has it) was dropping back from us even though it was at full throttle!

Why is this report posted on a pay to view website and absent from this website and free to view versions like Y & Y ?

WP - sadly not everything is within our control. The report, pics and results were sent to Dinghy Sailing Mag, Y&Y, Daily Sail and Mags to place on their respective websites. Evidently Daily Sail are terribly efficient being the first to upload it, no doubt Mags will put it on Y&Y and the Merlin site as and when he gets time.

Is it true that a well known helmsman turned up at Putney with his boat on Sunday and then left before the race when it snowed for a while?

Great sailing at Ranelagh.
Wind was just getting up even more when our main halyard broke forcing us to retire.
Didn't seem that cold although there was some driving snow just after we retired!
Still, good ST and river series points.

The report is now on both Y&Y and this website.

I take it Richard Harris wishes to volunteer to help with proof-reading, image editing and publishing future reports? Great news.

Going back to my paid job now....
