MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Chartering boat for Salcombe week.

Having secured an entry for salcombe week my helm, Jon Andrews
and I are in the process of trying to charter a competive boat.
Jon Andrews is son of the late merlin legend Chris Andrew and
has many years experience at top international level competive
sailing. I myself am the current B14 world, european and nation champion
crew, with 5 years experience of merlin sailing with Chris Andrew in the
early 90's. If anyone would be good enough to consider chartering their
boat I would be most grateful to here from you.

Regards

Given the credentials I think it wise not to lend him a boat!! There is enough people going to finish in front of me already!!!

Only joking Andy I am sure there will be a good Sport out there with a spare boat.

World champion well why sail with jon ? I could buy a nice new boat and we could sail together as long as you tell me what to do all the way round and share not only your knowledge but also Could you help out with the steering a little when no one is watching

It will be great to see both of you on the water at Salcombe

Ramus is quite an unusual surname
Are you any relation of Clem Ramus from Rye Harbour SC
He is/was a top man

I would also appreciate knowing whether you are related to Clem Ramus's family. James Ramus became one of the top Olympic FD crews and Bendy (nee Ramus) was married to Don Cooke who tied for the MR Championships with Beecher Moore crewed by Ian Proctor and R J Ledwith in 1950. Don also crewed in Pat Dyas's dragons in Edinburgh Cups and Olympic trials. I was privileged to sail with and against them.

Meanwhile these top yotters need a good boat - sounds as if they are happy to contribute.
So those of who are not going to Salcombe - consider it.

As a good friend of "Andrew Ramus" I feel I should clear up the confusion of the Family name. Andy wasn't given this name at birth, he has changed it by de-pole. He was actually christned Sandy Anus and is rather embarrassed by the whole thing, almost as much as the results he got back from the clinic the other day!

As a resident of New Zealand for 15 years I'm returning to UK to take part in Salcombe, with my wife and 2 daughters in tow, assuming we're successful in obtaining a boat, and introducing them to the on and off the water Salcombe antics as my parents did with us for 20 years.

Looking forward to a positive response to either Andy or Sandy

Understand why that's a bummer of a name.
