There must be someone who lives on the outskirts west of London who'd be willing to have an extra one in the car...i don't take up much room!

I'd hardly call J16 M4 the outscirts of London!

Especially as anyone coming from Londinium is going to go straight round the M25 and up the M40/M1/A5, rather than tonking accross to the west country for the pleasure of getting stuck on the M5.

Depends what you define as a sensible distance to/from London/Chippenham.  Why don't you just drive to Blithfield.  Surely not going to use car once there, so drinking not an issue is it?

I expect someone from Starcross or Lyme will be going up to M5 past you?
Otherwise others will be going from Upper Thames / Cookham.
Better still - ask your helm for some petrol money!
