MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Anyone in the Bristol/Bath area want to teach me?!

I really want to get involved with the Merlins but I havnt got a boat and I dont actually know how to sail one!! My local uni club is Chew Valley and I know theres someone there who has one, but I was wondering if theres anyone up to about an hours drive away that needs a crew and has some patients to teach me!
I've done some sailing and teaching it before so I'm not a novice, just a bit rusty!

Anyway, if anyone would like to give me a go or is desperate for a crew one weekend, can you let me know pls?

Thanks!

PS I'd quite llike to go to the Inlands and I am available then if anyone wants me!!!

I'm a teacher (well student teacher) I can teach you to use a map, but unfortunatly, it won't teach me how to spell properly!

Patience - is that right?

Ignore the pedants! It would be lovely to have you in the fleet - I'm sure someone will offer you a chance to get sailing before too long.

The vintage boats will be out at Shearwater (Warminster) on 23rd and 24th Sept or just come along and join the cheapest club around (£45, may be less for students) and you can crew for peole or hire a club boat (comet duo or laser) to get you back up to speed. Direct train from Bristol too!

Thanks for all your help! I am a member of Chew Valley and Tenby SC(of course), so I might see if theres anyone who needs a crew there. Ive got the use of the Uni Fireflies, but its the Merlins I really want to get into.
Trying to work out whether its worth me going to Blithfield for the Inlands on the off chance of a sail?

Paitience is spelt beautifully unfortunately is not. Sorry it's just me being cheeky besides you don't need to spell to sail a merlin!

Hope you do get to crew, I started crewing in a merlin and loved the boat so much I sold my boat and had to have one. I bought 3280 and still enjoy it.

Even if you don't find a crewing job at Blithfield, which I doubt will happen if you turn up, it's got to be worth it for a bit of Merlin Rocket networking! Besides, there's always the bar.....

You see I get into trouble when I mix with alcohol - it does funny things to me....

Try not to mix it/with it then! Stick to one drink of choice and you'll be fine. The purer the better - the drink that is.

I am tempted to go, but I dont really want to go on my own, and only met a few people at the Nationals...

I live at Chepstow, just across the Severn Bridge, and sail 3544 at Port Talbot. It might be possible to take you sailing sometime either at my club or I could take the boat to Chew Valley. I could be looking for a crew at one or two open meetings

By the 'guy with the hose', do you mean Tom with the funnel/tubing contraption. If you see him in a bar with said item, DO NOT under any circumstances mention the word Turbo. :)

By: Richard (3233)
Haha, nope I meant the guy who thought it was really funny to get to outside hose and bring it into the clubroom spraying all the kids photos, results, carpet, people and me - not many people see me really angry!!!
But all was forgiven after he apologised many times :)
