Go for it steve.
I'm the same size as you and my crew is 14 stone, in the big stuff nobody can touch us.
And if your crew dosn't turn up you can stick-it round the coarse single handed and still give some of the fast plastic a run for there money.

Steve,
I'm quite happy to show you the boat you need but I do feel if we went out in a melin it would buckle under the weight. When the season has started you are quite welcome to come down to tewkesbury with your crew and have a go in my Albacore. If you cannot find a crew then I'm sure that my Crew/girlfriend will be happy to crew for you. Mail me [email protected] its a work mail adress so you should get a fairly rapid reply.

I sail against them in our handicap fleet in my OK. They can be quick in the right conditions but they just dont seem inspiring. Each to thier own i suppose. Merlins have developed into very advanced, fast and exciting boats and with a symetrical spinny you can sail them anywhere. Could not imagine sailing a boat without a spinny?!

Jeremy where do you sail?
Do you fancy coming to give russ a race on the 27th and 28th may on a stream? Open bar food and free camping available

Would love to Olly but it is the River Champs that week so i will be there.

I sail at Cookham Reach, you and Russ are more than welcome to come and have a play one Sunday. We have a good fleet of Merlins for Russ and a good Handicap fleet for you with a couple of Albacores in it too.

Where do you guys Sail?

We sail at Tewkesbury on the river avon. Being the events person at the club I woulud like to ma ke you aware of our regatta which is on the 9th and 10th September. This is a very good weekend with bar friday and sat night and also a awesome party on the friday and sat night.
Have you got any events on at your club, Tewkesbury are a good travelling club and would prob come in numbers if it was worth going to.

Unfortunatly we do not have a regatta of any sort as we we are only a mile as the crow flies to Upper Thames who have Bourne End week every year. I might try and get to you for yours though as it is only a vintage event that weekend although if i have a vintage boat at my disposal i might be there.

Being the Vice Commodore at Cookham i may suggest a weekend regatta and see what response i get. could be good fun. Our largest event is the two day Merlin open in April. You should see if you can borrow a boat and come over for it.

Might do that. I'm sure if I took russes boat he wouldnt notice. He only swims most weeks anyway, so really he may just as well cut out the middle man and jump in the river

Jeremy to ollys earlier comment i do think olly and steve may be far to heavy to sail a Merlin. Albacores have a large fleet at Tewkesbury, i was trying desperately to find one but in the end thought i would break the Mould and buy a Proper boat it would be nice to get a few merlins to Tewkesbury for our Regatta someone needs to show the Albacore and Solo boys a thing or two. I'm trying to get time off and boat ready and maybe even a crew for Cookham open i think i need to sample a bit of Fleet racing.

Would be good to see you there Russ. You can come for Sunday only or both days. Saturday could be helpful as Pat knows all there is to know about Merlin sailing. We should have about 30 boats out for the Sunday and about 15 - 20 for Saturday.
