Anyone wanting to pick up a free Merlin, and quite a famous one at that, very successfully sailed by Spud Rowsell & Jon Turner in the 70's, have a mosey at the For Sale list.
Looks like she needs a bit of work but nothing a good DIY'r couldn't handle.
By the way I know nothing about the sale of the boat just would be shame to see a good pedigree boat go to waste.

My first ever Merlin!!
She was a lovely boat, and a good weight carrier. Hope she goes to a great home. Sadly, I don't have the skills to repair her.

it's not my boat Shane, just noticed it on the for sale list and recognised the sail number as being quiet a famous boat in it's own right.
Go to main web page click on boats for sale and scroll down. You will see Vendors details.

Bought her off ebay about 6 months ago with all good intentions and planned to restore with a few updates - deck stepping and low bow tank and all that. But I now realise that I do not have the time and space to do it properly. Would hate to see her lost to the fleet and apart from the decks (which I have removed) the hull is in surprisingly good condition as are the centreboard and rudder. I'll only let her go to good home though! Still the option to pay someone to do it for me if all else fails.

Those of you who have a copy of the Merlin Rocket book will know the picture on the centre pages of Spud and Jon Turner blasting down the reach from Gerston in this boat

Quick note to all, We officially have our 2nd Merlin,(we havent even sailed the first one yet, hahaha) we pick her up on Sat. This will be a great project for us as we did have a lot of fun with 1018, with the hopes of deck stepping 2986 to add a little more fun in this one. might have to open a warehouse soon!!!

I am always just slightly too slow when these come up!! Good luck with it Shane hope it goes well.
Missed Panatella when she came up too and really would have liked that one as it was my Dads when it won the champs in 1980.

Nice one Shane
Glad to hear she is going to another good home.
Perhaps you could keep us updated with a photographic diary of the restoration/deck stepping project?
Good luck

GUTTED! If only I'd have known I would have snapped her up! 2986 (Fuming) was my sisters boat which I sailed with her (occasionally - before buying my own) down in Salcombe!
She was pretty damn quick...many will know my sister (Emily Burn) used to kick some butt in that boat when she was only 17!!!
