I have an old ghostrider which is fast but desperatly needs some new sails. Not being familiar with restricted class design boats, Will any suit of sails do as long as they are for a hog stepped boat? Advice will be welcome. Thanks

Should be OK if they are cut for a hog-stepped mast. Some sailmakers might have old patterns they could use, if you want new ones. Secondhand ones are a bit hard to come by, in good condition that is.

Nick,
The three critical pieces of information are luff length, foot length and whether you've got a track foot or not.
Measure the distance between the black band at the top of your mast and the gooseneck spigot and from the black band at the end of your boom to the tack end of the boom.
Armed with the information proceed directly to Secondhand Man Chris Martin (see adverts in the equipment for sale section) who may well have just the suit for you! Alternatively post again with the information.

Nick, I have a couple of sets of sails, Batts i think, from my old NSM 1 3182. They are loose footed and in fairly good nick. 1 set may be track footed but if you are interested i will check them out for you.
PS it was hog stepped.

The original sail plan for a ghost rider had a large main and small jib and they went like a train except when it was light . Having won a champs race with that rig I ( and I think Francis Williams ) changed to a 32sq ft jib to improve the light airs performance , which it did but the heavy airs speed suffered . I think that , for Shoreham , the change was a mistake . The person who bought it ( now dead ) inadvertantly used the big main and the big jib and went like hell !!

There's a moral in that tale I think!
