Warwick took loads photos. If he has your full mailing address from the entry form, they are in the post. I have a handful, that I'll give out at Champs.

Mags did you get sent some to upload?

Cheers, Ross

Not only photos guys, but where's the report? And the updated ST - not whinging - I want to know if we've moved on up! So to speak. If a report still needs writing then I could just about fathom one out if no one else has had time to do it.

Also what happened to the Salcombe report - I know it's appeared on this site, but I haven't clocked it on Y&Y. It may be that I've missed it, but if not I think we're missing valuable PR opportunities, especially in this, our big year. Well one of them anyway...

Deepy's right - we've not been that good at getting reports on either our own website or Y&Y promptly (if at all) this year and we are missing valuable PR. We're one of the traditional classes that are really holding their own and growing (which can't be said of some other traditional classes) but we need to spread the word, not keep it to ourselves or even only those who were at the relevant open meeting - we can see Rocketeers want to know what happened just by the number of comments asking what's happened after a weekend! There is a list in existance with volunteers (not press-ganged either!) to write the reports, so if you've volunteered, don't let the class down by not doing what you've said you would. Mags - is there any way that we can get reports/results onto our own site rather than having links to other sites? It just makes a more complete record for us....... (Speaking as Hon Keeper of Class Records!!)

Jude, I agree with you.

Nothing about Salcombe Week on the Y&Y website. Shoreham Open nothing, and so on....

It is vital we get the reports issued daily in 2 weeks time during the Nationals otherwise we will (i) miss a huge PR opportunity for the class and (ii) have some pretty hacked off sponsors.

Rghe MR class is not alone in not getting reports out in an interesting and timely way, gone are the days when Ian Proctor, or David Thorpe would get six column inches in the Times & Telegraph the next day throughout a Championship week several factors largely the somewhat onanistic interest in sailing at the professional end, Ellen MCArthur, Volvo, America's Cup etc., which is where the ed Gormans and Bob Fishers (And more importantly the editors) see their readerships interest -(Is it really? - Discuss!)Then the Web where there seems a reluctance to submit reports on line, which is odd given the amount of time spent on line. I'd have thought it could/should be condition of a ST Championship or whatever meeting that the organising club at least submitted the results on line to the Class Record Holders that night they could send on to Y&Y;YBW;YW; Scuttlebut and the other Sailing News Web sites.
It's another job for the overabused volunteers so pewrhaps some of the moaners might like to take it on?

Normally I upload stuff onto our site within a few hours of getting it. I've even managed to get the full results for nearly every single meeting this year.

I fear writing a report is seen as an onerous duty, and not one to leap into on Sunday evening, straight after racing. Most people might find the spare time round about Tuesday.

Alex has been in charge of submitting reports to Y&Y this year, and has also been making sure that Holt, Sailracer and Dinght Sailing Magazine have got them.

I have been chasing for a Shoreham report, with no luck yet. The only other ones we have missed this year are Hastings, Bolton and Shustoke. Not THAT bad!

Y&Y are missing those too, plus the Dorchester vintage open, but thats all. They have a good selection of photos too.

Whilst the days of column inches in big dailies may have gone, I'm not so sure. Has anyone tried recently? I remember at my first nationals at abersoch '98 the results were printed in the "sports in brief" part of the Telegraph every day. In this day and age when all the major papers have daily sports supplements, which sometimes seem to be struggling for copy, maybe there is a place for our results as National Merlin-Rockets, and possibly a summary few inches? I agree wholeheartedly with Richard that we need to post daily results during the champs - every other major class seems to manage it, and with the possibility of 80 boats at the champs, that makes us one of the most major.

Another good site to send reports to is www.thedailysail.com they seem cover many dinghy classes as well as the big boat stuff and have some good articles...
