Topic : Help, again

Many apologies, need to be a PITA again.
After a couple of measurements...

1) Deck length from mast to lower forestay sheave (did I hear it called a puller? or is my hearing going too?)
2) The string used to pull the jib sheets around (hope someone knows what i'm talking about), where to bring through deck..
3) How far back from bulkhead for the jib sheet travellers? I realize that they travel but how far back am I likely to have to take them?
4) How far back from the bulkhead are most of the jib sheet cleats? I think this may be connected to measurement 3.

Just putting in the last of the reinforcement 'plates' so you gotta know we're nearly done. Have a huge box of string, blocks, cleats etc just waiting to be installed.

Many thanks, again.

1 - it is a puller, yes.
2 - suspect you mean the barber haulers? a ring on the jib sheet is pulled outwards towards the gunwhale when reaching. yes?

I expect a boatbuilder will tell you the correct way to do this but....

Can you mount the jib fairleads until you've got the mast on and sails on if you don't know exactly where it should be? Would you not mount them once you put the sails on and took a look at the slot and the shape of the jib and what range of travel you'll need with and without rake......?

As far as Jib cleats are concerned, you can mount them on the side-deck and run the jibsheet up through the deck (with a thru-deck block). The link illustrates this quite nicely.

There are other ways of doing it though.

Sorry, again I'm not the expert but.... If you cleat the way just suggested then the fore-aft position is not critical except that you need to put it through a re-inforced bit of deck and you dont IDEALLY want the crew sitting on it (and you don't want to restrict the forward seating position of the crew)

This illustration has it in front of the shroud. Probably preferable.

Thanks MAGS that does sound like the thingy I meant.

Jon, I agree with your sentiments on the order of carts and horses but I have a whole lot of carts, a whole lot of horses and I only get 1 trip to the rigging guy to get my wire made up. I also need to get reinforcement under the decks before installing hardware.

Although with your comments in mind and some more thought on my part I am now considering getting the wire made up and doing all the rigging before varnishing the decks so that I can add more support if necessary. Just need some of my backordered hardware to show up now.

That was the way I'd intended doing the jib cleats and forward of the shrouds should A)be doable and B)get me out of the doodoo a little too!

Thanks - John
