Dear Nigel
This one from the ARK?
They do of course weigh the same though they are of a different specific gravity, Gold being the denser. thus 1 oz of Gold will all other things being equal take up less space than 1 oz of lead. There was talk in the bad old days of people moving wealth out of South Africa by getting Kruger Rands (1 oz of fine gold) put into the keels when they were cast. There was certainly an urgent salvage job when a South African Yacht being delivered to the UK went on the rocks in the West Indies!

surely an ounce is an ounce no matter what material it is... presumeably there will be less of one than the other....

an once of gold on the moon will weigh less than an once of lead on earth, so depends where they are.

I can vouch for the fact that an ounce of feathers is infinitly lighter than an ounce of lead. The feathers didn't hurt one bit, as for the lead! Argh!!

WVM got it. Gold. A Troy ounce which measures precious metals is about three grams heavier than an ounce.
