Whitstable Open 2008
There was plenty of excitement at Whitstable over the weekend of 28/29 June
with the annual Merlin Rocket Silver Tiller meeting and armed police closing
off parts of the town. The two events were not connected!|
Saturday was sunny with an 18 knot south westerly. Race one got away first time in full raking conditions with fantastic reaches. Tom Stewart and Liam Dempsey enjoyed their win from Glen Trusswell and Olly Turner. The roles were reversed in race two which started under a black flag after two general recalls. Roger Gilbert and Elle Bremner were third in both.
Sunday was quieter, but only just, with 12- 16 knots of breeze. Glen Truswell did a horizon job on the fleet only to be called OCS so William Warren and Chris Robinson took the win from Gilbert. Matt Biggs and Rob Kennaugh, who, after, a disastrous Saturday, were getting to grips with the conditions were third. The last race won by Roger Gilbert and Ellie Bremner from Glen Trusswell and Tom Stewart.
So the 30 entries had a great weekend racing in fantastic conditions. Special thanks to the Whitstable race team led by Jon Silk, who set fair lines, good courses which they changed as the shifts came through, and kept the hanging around between races to a minimum.
