Shustoke Open 2006
Despite some problems with weed, Merlin Rocket sailors enjoyed a tremendous weekend at
Shustoke Sailing Club on 8th-9th July. |
A vintage race on the Saturday, with numbers 3 and 36 present, preceded a Midlands area open on Sunday. Moderate to strong winds on Saturday grew to 4-5 on Sunday giving the old boats a chance to show their prowess and testing the new boats to their limits on Sunday. The vintage racing on Saturday was extremely good humoured and relaxed, helms and crews benefiting from Shustoke's good hospitality and Church End beer.
Sunday racing was not a Silver Tiller Event. This year that honour goes to Midland and Banbury Sailing Clubs (ST status returning to Shustoke in 2007) but competition amongst the twelve teams was strong. Despite strong winds, Officer of the Day Rear Commodore Bill Gill set testing courses, and not one boat avoided a dunking!
