Events to Qualify:
4The Midland Circuit is a series of events, some Silver Tiller status, some not, for Clubs officially within 60 miles of Midland Sailing Club although sometimes miles vary in length! The Circuit began in 1967 with many leading sailors such as Phil King and Mike Calvert being successful before moving on to success on the Silver Tiller circuit.
To qualify, all that you have to do is complete four events, including at least one non Silver Tiller event. Results from each event are recalculated to include only eligible Midland Circuit competitors. Silver Tiller rules apply and override club results if necessary. Entry is open to any member of the MROA who lives or sails at a club within 60 miles of Birmingham.
We divide the competitors up into three fleets, all sailing together, to give everyone a chance to win something:
- All comers: all boats
- Classic boats 3571-3358
The Open fleet will compete for the four trophies, 1st, 2nd and 3rd plus best improver. There is an “Old Boat” trophy which applies to the classic boats.
To encourage the lady sailors, there will be a prize for first female qualifying helm and for the first female qualifying crew!

We have now sailed three of this years six HD Sails Midland Circuit events and the results are shown below.
No discards as of yet!
There is still plenty of time for all those listed on the results to qualify by attending the three remaining events at Bartley on the 19th September, Trent valley on the 3rd October and Blithfield on the 14th November.
Remember one of your events has to be non Silver Tiller status to qualify which means one of Bartley (Round 1) Burton or Trent Valley.
Can you defeat current local legend Matt Biggs (13 wins) to win the Midland Circuit which has a long and rich history, if you didnt know it's been running since 1968, noteable winners include amongst all of the others, Mike Calvert (8 wins) Harry Haynes (9 wins) subsequent National Champs Phil King, Mike, Harry, Andy "Taxi" Davis or the only female Winner of the Midland Circuit Caroline Croft.
Why not come and join in? with a visitors, improvers and ladies prize we try our best to be as inclusive of all abilities within the fleet with the aim of encouraging participation and enjoyment through close peer group racing from the front to the back of the fleet!
Woodies are welcome and are treated with respect and often do very well beating much newer boats taking fourth and third overall at the Midland and Burton events!
