MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Banbury on 25th March & back to back races

By now everyone will have the first Silver Tiller event of the season in their diaries/organisers/minds for Saturday 25th March.

I would like your views on whether to run two back to back races before lunch with the third race between lunch and tea (as we did last year) OR have one race before lunch with two back to back between lunch and tea?

Views please.

Perhaps someone could post a view on what the weather will be doing on the 25th.................

Might be an idea to leave it open?

I believe we will be there for the event with 1018,I kinda like the idea of 2 races before and 1 after. but i am open to anything too. I think this way by the second race you are into it and then a break for the third?
Still need to make contact about accomodation!

Clubs that run back-to-back races should make toilet boats available near the finish line of the first race.

Im a great believer in trying to get everything done and dusted by 5pm so people can get on the road

Depending on the weather and your galley team i favour the 2 races races before lunch concept then you arent under such pressure to have 2 quick races at the end if you have slippage in your timetable

A little reminding about the Scottish trip at the events running up to Easter would be appreciated.

Two races back to back in the morning and one race after a short lunch break sounds good. Why not 3 races back to back then lunch ?

Lots of water as of this last week - now within about 20cm of being completely full which I guess we will be by the end of this week as I look out at the rain coming down!

Can do something about lunch and back to back races but up to you to stop last year’s winner, Richard Whitworth, from wrapping things up before lunch.

Interestingly, he has won the Banbury Cross Trophy on six of the last nine occasions. Will this year be seven?

Had a look this morning, pond fully full! Hull painted, Bow tank painted, undercoat started going on the interior this morning

P&B day arranged, Towbar on van, rigging disorganised Fingers crossed (backup boat booked) - Whoop de whoop who's gonna fight me for the 3400 prize then - come on all you pre tales - Banbury is just the place for quick tacking, narrow boat, big rocker action!

If anyone is coming up Friday night and wants to go for a few jars give me a shout.

Sorry Jon but i will be bringing Shes a Cracker, also re-painted, varnished and with new grippy paint on the inside. I will however be coming to your Vintage event later in the year in 2926 Tobbaco Road. See if you can't get an older boat and i will race you then for an old boats prize. (you will probably beat me this coming open anyway!)

Hate to tell you this but I have changed the prizes for the older boats so that there are now two prizes as Midland circuit. A prize for the best placed Prime of Life boat (more than 10 years old and less than 20 - this year 3535 ) and for first Mature boat (more than 20 years old - this year 3377).
