At Blithfield, we're restarting an old event with a new format:-

"Blithfield SC is hosting a Winter handicap open meeting series on four
Sundays over four months. There are two races per day at 12:00 and 14:00hrs with an entry fee of 20GBP or free for U18 helms. Competitors will be racing on upto 300 acres of water for the 'Blithfield Barrel'. The first date is 21st November and full details are on www.blithfield.org.uk "

The full dates are: 21st November, 19th December, 16th January, 13th February, cunninngly selected to avoid most of the big events.
Prizegiving after last race. Merlins are most welcome - please let me know if you are thinking coming.

Guaranteed - nothing below a force 6 - we have our own weather system*

We're using the 'sliding handicap scheme' to make it fairer for the older merlins, so everyone's welcome.

This GROUNDBREAKING EVENT is now underway with 24 entrants so far - the racing was extremely close in race 2 with the top 4 boats separated by 20 seconds (Merlins 2nd, 3rd, 4th)- you can still qualify if you sail 19th Dec, 16th Jan, 13th Feb. Results so far and info on the link.

A pity the guranteed (Probably) force 6 was more like 6mph really..............

Still, it's the first time i've ever sailed at Blithfield in mediumish conditions, it's usually either howling or flat calm!

I'll also try not to fall down the stairs a couple of hours before the race next time - ever tried crewing in a boat with no thwart when you can't bend your leg? It hurts!!

This is a great place to sail, and if you're in the Midlands a series not to be missed if you can possibly help it.
