Dear all,
On 14th June the Government announced that restrictions would not be lifted in time for Salcombe Merlin Rocket Week. The Committee considered this and spoke to Salcombe Yacht Club. They have confirmed that it is possible to sit 44 people on tables of six in the dining room whilst observing social distancing regulations. In addition, many more can join virtually.
On this basis, we intend to hold the 2021 AGM as per the Notice (SYC at 6pm on Saturday 3rd July).  
Please note the following:

Should you be uncomfortable in joining physically, you have the opportunity to attend virtually. If joining physically, please follow guidance previously published by SYC including wearing face masks except when seated at tables.
A pre-recording from proposers will be broadcast prior to the meeting. This will be available on the website and will be communicated through the forum. The intention of this is to ensure the meeting is as efficient as possible.
The meeting will permit members to attend physically and virtually. Those who wish to join virtually must email Martin Smith ([email protected]) to get log-in details.
We ask that those who are able to join virtually consider taking this option. This will allow those who are unable to do so the opportunity to attend physically.
The quorum for making rules changes is 40 full members. Without this, the class will stagnate. Please can I ask full members to attend physically or virtually for the good of your class.
Regretfully, we ask that Associate Members choose to attend virtually, not physically to give Full Members the opportunity to attend and vote physically.

NOTE – We have just identified a typo on the forum where we said that the meeting was on Saturday 4th July – This should Saturday 3rd July as per the formal Notice in the magazine. Apologies for any confusion.

Just wondering - I will be in Salcombe but would also have the ability to attend virtually.  How would the committee advise?  Should the 44 places be reserved for those who cant attend virtually?

The Merlin Rocket AGM is scheduled for 6pm this Saturday. For the first time ever, virtual attendance and voting is permitted. All full members can vote and I’m really keen to get a quorum (40 members) to ensure that it is possible to pass these resolutions.


If you’re a full member, please can you consider attending to allow important rule changes to be passed. And enthuse other full members to attend for the benefit of the fleet. Without it, the class will stagnate which will be detrimental to the class as a whole.

Thanks for your question. For me, the number 1 request is for you to attend and vote! There is a limit on physical attendance and there are people who are probably less technologically savvy than you, and others who might not have good wifi at their accommodation. So its up to you, but perhaps virtual is a good shout?

It may be best, even if you think that you may attend in person to still register for the Virtual Meeting, to ensure that you can attend either way.

Second sentence should read virtual

Hi wrote Martin yesterday to sign up for the AGM but had nothing back at all. Therefore I cannot log in and am unable to vote. Can this be rectified ASAP
