Topic : Older Winder Issues

3616 is still solid as a rock but there are a couple of things that Id like to sort out.

Firstly, as with many of her vintage, the gelcoat on the carbon foredeck/decks is starting to flake in a few places (noticeabley round the puller sheave on the foredeck). I know Im not alone with this problem, so whats the best fix? Sand back and re-gel or will it lift again?

Secondly, the gudgeon of the standard Winder lifting rudder stock is, after many years, now slightly oversized. Whats the best fix for this? Obviously filling and re-drilling involves trying to re-drill perfectly plumb without the benefit of a great big pillar drill! One possible solution is to drill out exisiting 8mm hole to accept an Allen/RWO nylon insert. Anybody had success with this fix?

TIA

Alistair

The puller sheave will probably be the aluminium reacting with the carbon foredeck. A larger fitting will remove most of this (the Selden one is plastic and wont corrode) biut you still may need to gelcoat repair to some extent.

You can fix the stock using the standard seasure gudgeon bush.

Cheers, Chris. I might make a base plate for the new sheave to save doing the gel work.
