I need to replace my existing uncovered dyneema rake control lines as they have seen better days. My attempts to measure the length, in situ, arrives at 14m. Is that about right? What are people using for this part of the system these days? Still uncovered dyneema or something a little kinder on the hands?
 
Where, over the years, the dyneema has worn against the gelcoat on the thwart as it emerges from its tube, there are quite deep grooves. I was thinking of creating a plate (tufnol?) to place over the damage and tidy things up. Anybody tried just inserting lined deck bushes in the holes instead?

I used 4mm Marlow Excel control line for my system, the key thing is to ensure that it all runs through the system smoothly, as thicker line can bind or not release as easily.
 
In terms of the rubbing Deck bushes should work, however getting the line through the bushes can be an issue, which is why they stopped using them and it constricts the line as it passes through.  I removed the bushes when retrofitting the One-String, as the line wouldn't run freely, but haven't found an issue with it cutting into the gelcoat.  Also you need to ensure that the tubes still align as these guide the ropes to the correct cleat without getting tangled.

I also use the 4mm Marlow control line and it works really well.

Two votes for Marlow control line is good enough for me. I think I'm probably just going to make a tufnol plate to tidy things up then there won't be any alignment problems.

I asked Dave Winder to put bushes in the rake "holes" when he built my boat. He used 4mm control line and its still running smoothly after 12 years

On closer examination, it looks as though there were originally bushes in my rake holes so I'll replace them when I replace the strings.
