Topic : bolt rope repair / top batten problem?

Hi All,

We used a nearly new set of HD's for ST open this weekend (used for a nationals only beforehand), which we were very pleased with. however, , when we took the main down yesterday, the bolt rope has already pulled away from the sail by the top batten.

has anyone any experience of this happening so early on in a sails life, happened to me on Laser 5000's but the sails were old before it did? our mast is a selden one and all the sails bar a north one are quite hard to pull up / tight in the track. So i am worried  about having a patch put on by the top batten as it could not slide in the track afterward.

did the bolt rope tear away due to the wrong batten tension? i just pulled the creases out nothing more on batten itself

thanks in advance
chris

Give taxi a call. They will be most anxious to sort this out.

The most likely cause is a sharp luff track on the mast.

I agree, give Taxi a call.  As Chris says it is the luff track on the mast, certain masts have a smaller than standard track, so you may either need a smaller bolt rope, or to run some sandpaper up the track to open it up.  Andy will happily help you to resolve the issue.

Thanks guys, thought that would be the case. It's interesting because got loads of sails with the boat but only one isn't a complete b8gger to pull up.

I should have spoken to him yesterday at itchenor but only saw the damage this morning!

Hi Chris
Had the same issue with the Proctor rig munching through sails at the head, the track is like a razor.
Andy popped in a new bolt rope and goes up much easier... seem to be sorted! Also make sure the feeder at the bottom is nice and tight.
