SYC please note on the Details page the entry is £155, but on the Entry list page it is £150 (minus Mill Bay). Guessing you might get a few mixed payments depending what people looked at?

Up to #90 already!!

This is like getting Glastonbury tickets - next year, we'll all have our parents, siblings, offspring and friends lined up, desperately pressing refresh...!

Barnsie,

It is clearly not meant for people with a job or a school run.  What happened to the old system of a ballot if there were too many entries before the first deadline?  Time to look at other holiday plans....

My guess is you'll still get in, last year everyone on the waiting list got an entry eventually......
Plus there's at least one duplication on the entry list !

Where is 'the list'; I entered and had a web-page telling me my place was booked, but I can't pay until I get home from work.... not had a confirmation e-mail so not sure if I got a place or not at the moment?

Would it be worth confirming if the reasons behind the 120 boat limit are still valid? 60 boats on the start seems to have worked for the past few years so perhaps we with some negotiation we could squeeze an extra 10% in there??

I left home at 0600 this morning to spend all day in court (no jokes please) where I was necessarily without phone or computer access.  However I left a note on my desk before leaving reminding me to make my Merlin Week entry on getting home confident that this timing should be quite adequate.  However when I came out of Court at 5pm to learn from a friend that I had already missed out by 7 hours I was desperately disappointed and very angry indeed.  In my opinion this situation is intolerable, manifestly unfair and likely to result in very bad feelings for many long standing supporters of the Class and the Week. I have accordingly sent an open letter (on a personal basis) to club's Hon Sec for the attention of all those concerned at SYC with the arrangements for the week urging retrospective adoption of the ballot system previously adopted when a similar situation arose several years ago. This in my view is the only fair way to deal with the situation and to avoid unpleasant repercussions.

You have my complete sympathy Dan.
It was a mad rush and I nearly missed out and would have been as disappointed as you.
I reckon you have Grandfather rights anyway and I hope a special space will be made for you.

For what it's worth, we would have liked to join in again after a break of some years, but it seemed unfair to take a place from more regular competitors.

Surely it would be sensible to open the entries at a time when most sailors are available to enter - how about on a Sunday evening?

More flights and races would also make sense as the event is so popular - same number of boats on the water at once but over a longer period. If it is a problem with safety crews or duty staff, maybe some of those in the flights not sailing would volunteer to assist - most are experienced club sailors and used to crewing safety boats.

I don't agree with a ballot. - stick to first come first served.

I think - and again this is from me - that the format needs to be left alone. It clearly works, and makes the week what it is.

We did try more flights and more races and almost noone liked it. Yes it was a  while ago, but we ended up back where we started and at least one fleet stalwart has never done the event again.
