MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Yearbook Dyslexia

Received the yearbook and magazine-great inspiration to get out sailing as usual BUT: when I looked at the yearbook Register of members I was surprised to see my club (Blithfield) has changed to Wembley?  So I started looking at other oldies and was surprised to see Peter Male (also Blithfield) has also changed from Blithfield but to Tata Steel (maybe not a good move!). Robert Grew (Blithfield) has changed club to Scillonian (wherever it that is maybe not near Birmingham?).    Guy Winder (Hollingworth through and through) is now Banbury.  And Bruce Mager (another Hollingworth stalwart) is Trent Valley.  Ian Tinker (Carsington) has like me moved to Wembley (might be the computer default club).  Going younger Martin Smith (Blithfield /Midlands MROA rep)  seems to have moved to Starcross.  But Blithfield hasn't lost out because others eg Roy Reuter have (or maybe haven't) joined us.   I thought  Chris Gould would be at one of his various midlands clubs but apparently his club is Whitstable.  I stopped at this point because it seemed a bit too confusing.  How do we get this sorted and separate truth from fiction?

Mine are wrong too.  However, I'm happy to offer help do a reconciliation if someone wants to think about how we do it ? If members sec could provide me with any change forms I could produce a 'checked' version based on last years database which could then be re-printed as an addendum or 'parked' in readiness for a one-off fix in next year's year-book?

I have seemingly moved from Cookham to Starcross, not a bad move but a little journey to get there on a sunday! Clearly Tim has changed how he updates the database and it has a slight glitch in it. I am sure he will sort it out for the next edition. In the mean time we will have to use our knowledge (or last years book) if we want the right clubs.

When I was doing the yearbook I went through each and every member one by one and cross checked the membership list with the previous yearbook to make sure any changes were updated and each member was correct. This took an emense amount of time and I am sure Tim does not have this time available at the moment. He has done his best and the rest of the yearbook looks great so before people jump on this can we just say a well done to Tim for the hard work that goes into the yearbook?

See you all at Starcross (apparently!)

I noticed this at the beginning of last week when the YB plopped onto the doormat and emailed Megan asking what was going on as I had moved from Banbury to Broadwater (wherever that is??) and Guy Winder had moved to Banbury!!  Many other distinctly wrong.

I gather from Col, Megan's secretary that the database is OK but something has happened to it between Megan and the printers.  I first I thought that someone's had done a sort on the Club column of the spreadsheet but this seems unlikely as some seemingly random lucky people are at the right clubs!!

It will all sort itself out in the fullness of time!!!

Hi all,

Jez has hit the nail on the head - I did make a check on members vs clubs, and evidently saw only some of those that were ok. I can see now that many are not, and I'm sorry for this. The reason the method has changed a little is a that I was using a newer version of office this time round, and the mail merge clearly got the better of me. This is not a straight forward process and, while we won't do an addendum for this year, I'll be extra careful for next time.

Hopefully, you noticed last years' fairly major rejig in the yearbooks' layout and content, that makes it read in a more logical order than it had evolved to, and corrected a few bits and pieces...

Sorry again for the club mix up,

Tim

Also noticed that the column for the name needs extending as well as some letters have been carried over to the left of the entry as per 3763 - e3763 ending in brav

Besides being listed as living in London (my fault for forgetting to update the powers that be), I now see that instead of sailing at Ranelagh, twenty minutes from my former address, I am apparently going all the way to Bala for my boaty fix. Err... I think not!

Note to self: tell Membership Sec that you now live in Brighton. Further note: when boat returns from being fettled by Gareth, see if the natives at Shoreham are friendly...

Also for those of you concerned that we are going back to Whitstable for our championships this year, rest assured it is indeed Penzance

Also noticed that some boat names are missing from the Index of Boat Names.
In particular I have noted - Three Dee (3765) and Brain Salad Surgery (3519)
