It is with great sadness that I've had news today that Sylvia Chegwyn, Brian's wife passed away this morning.  Sylvia always enjoyed Merlin Week, sat at the end of the bar with a drink, laughing at the various antics that were going on.  She eventually forgave the Merlin fleet for dropping Brian during a bar dive many years ago.  She had been battling illness for a few years, but died peacefully in hospital this morning.
 
She will be greatly missed.
 
Thoughts are with Brian, Jools and all of the extended family.

This is very sad news. She was an amazing character who loved the Merlin fleet. She also cooked wonderful roast dinners with fantastic portions. Our thoughts are with Brian, Jools and the family. Xx

Sylvia was a fabulous personality, with a welcoming and friendly smile, always happy to have a chat in the yacht club bar.  She was a great cook and we enjoyed many a tasty meal or bar snack of her creation.

Sending all our thoughts to Brian, Jools and all the family from the Hampton Merlin fleet. 

We will raise a gin and strawberries to Sylvia at Hampton at the weekend. X

Sylvia was a strong and wonderful lady who never ceased to delight in catching up with the Merlin and National 12 news over a glass or two sitting at the end of bar. Not only were her roast dinners legendary, she made the best pasties (sorry Mum!) and did a great line in home furnishings!
 
It was a pleasure to have shared so many good times with her and our thoughts are with Brian, Jools and all the Chegwyn's - from the Shoreham Merlin fleet.

This is very sad news, and we can only reiterate what has already been said. 
 
Sylvia, a wonderful lady, always so welcoming to us whilst she was sat at the end of the bar with a lovely smile on her face. There are some very fond memories over the last 40 years (or so) that will always bring a smile to our faces.

I'll be going to the funeral tomorrow from Exeter. I'm picking up Fran from Exeter St Davids Train Station at 11:21 so if anyone else would like a lift, they are more than welcome. 

Sylvia was one of "The Friendly Three" at Salcombe (Including Brian and Jools). Their welcome and hosting is up there with the top reasons why Salcombe is such pilgrimage, or at least for me it is. 
I hope the Yacht Club have stocked up on Gin and Strawberries! 

I've just came across this after having a nostalgic evening talking with my husband of my fond memories in Salcombe as a child, where my sister and I used to stay at my grandparents bed and breakfast "homefield." grandma and grandpa (pay and alun Edwards) were good friends with sylvia and Brian. They always set up the wooden skittles for us to play with and our best treat was "sylvias sausages" 

I bought my grandpa back to Salcombe in 2012 and we saw her briefly.  she knew us as the two little girls who always took part in the regatta and scooped 1St place, especially for the "Salcombe in Bloom" many years ago. I feel so sad of hearing this news. Sylvia was always so welcoming and lovely with my sister and I. She would always tell my dad Steven Edwards for sinking grandpa's boat Swan.. 

Rest In peace sylvia
