Does anyone have the numbers used for handicaps in the DeMay series? I'm trying to find out what is used if you are using a carbon mast and old rules small kite? Thanks Rob

The "Base handicap" is 1000 and if a carbon mast (-20) is used this is reduced to 980. There is no adjustment for a old rules spinnaker (even for the original small kite!). Use of a large (new rules) spinnaker incurs a further penalty of -20. Hope this helps.

If you go to the PY handicaps page there is supposedly a link to the vintage Merlin handicaps but when you click on it you get a page not found error. Needs sorting!!!!

1000 -20 for a carbon mast makes the proposed handicap number lower than that of a modern merlin which is 985 according to the website? How does that work for a boat built in 1959?

Don't get hung up on the figures here the system doesn't link to the py system directly as used for club handicap racing - The handicaps only apply to the Demay events and are just a way of defining performance between boats at that event. The 1000 is just an arbitrary starting point for adjustment up or down. Having done one of these I have to say that it seems to work well.
