Topic : New Sails

Happy new year to all.  I am considering buying new sails for 3571 (to upgrade our 2007 and 2010 sets) so looking for advice on which sail-maker offers 'best value'.  We are not going to be pushing for places at the front of the fleet but likely to be 'having fun' in the bottom 25%.  Looking for longevity, reasonable performance/technology on the Chipstow mast and low prices! What is the difference between ODL04 and ODL06 ? Anyone using Ullman Sails ?

I believe that ODL 6 is slightly heavier and may last longer - a sailmaker is the person to ask this question really.

Re which sails, stick with proven lofts whose products are in use throughout the fleet and you won't go far wrong. If you go out on a limb with a loft who isn't really doing much work in the class you will find help and advice harder to come by. if budget is a problem why not go for a set of season or half season old sails? just find someone with the same  rig and do a deal.

Sails are not a cheap investment, and buying the wrong ones will prove far more expensive in the long term than biting the bullet at this point!

We're still running an unbeatable offer on Merlin sails, these are the latest Generation of Championship specification sails to the Merlin, We're active in the class.  our sails are made here to the very highest standard too

email [email protected] for some more information, happy to help

to answer the question on the 06 and 04, for my own sails I use 04 and find it is ample stable enough for general use in the Merlin, the 06 will be more stable further up the wind range and also further down the line in use provide extra life in the shape of the sail.

We have started offering ZZ04 which is a weight in between the two, I believe there is also a weight in between 06 and 04 but I'm yet to try this fabric,
