MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Website Changes

Since we revamped the website back in the summer we have had a lot of feedback, some good, some not so! The strongest message can be summarised as "give us back our forum!"

It seems like the majority of you preferred the simplicity of the old forum where a) you did not have to register and b) all the latest posts were easily visible on the home page.

We are therefore introducing a number of changes which will become visible over the coming weeks.

First, we have removed the need to register which will make the forum open to everyone who has something to say. We do, however, want to encourage good behaviour and avoid people hiding behind aliases. This is the front door for our class so NO TROLLING!

Second, we have tried to de-clutter the screen to maximise the number of posts and amount of text visible. So out have gone avatars and social media links.

We have also changed the approach to categories. On the forum home page you will see all the posts but can select out of 5 category filters to help navigate what is a very large volume of posts. We have reduced the categories to the most popular; General, Events, Market Place, Class History and Technical.

As always, this is your website so please keep the feedback coming so we can make sure it works for you.

Just a question. Is there a need for the "Market Place" category as you have the "For Sale" section? I notice that there were items for sale in the "Market Place" which could also have been in the miscellaneous section of the for sale list. Items could be missed by those who don't check both sections. Maybe these sections could be amalgamated?

I welcome once again the opportunity to post my opinion in anonymity.

Dear 'Interested Observer'. I don't know who you are but I think it a retrograde step that unknown people can voice controversial opinions on this Forum and not be identifiable. Are you ashamed or just shy?

I'm not a fan of the ability to post anonymously but I have started visiting the forum again (particularly happy that all posts are in one place) Necessary evils?

Thanks to all involved for the hard work that's gone into this
