MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : The book: Your final, last chance for inclusion!

All,

well, I have now 'seen' the book! Well, to be more precise, I've seen a huge pile of printed A4 (over 300 pages worth) but more importantly, I have seen the art work for the front cover, the rear cover and then the line drawings that will help illustrate the text. These line drawings alone give the book an added 'wow factor', for they are superb and will set a new standard for this sort of publication. Equally, the pictures  that are going in are all top class. Rather that just have lots of shots of boats flying along in a cloud of spray, most of the pictures have been chosen  with care, for even as a stand alone, they have their own story to tell. Colin Stokes, who few in the fleet today would remember, but who was a cartoonist of note (as well as being a mean MR sailor) has also offered up a number of highly amusing contributions which again will add to the story.

But, to get all this done, then put into a large format 'coffee table' sized book, means that pretty soon, the bar will be dropping on further additions. I still have some interviews to conduct  but that aside, I'm starting to 'wrap up' chapters. So, if anyone out there has either a stunning picture that they think I might like, or a story that they feel should be included ( or maybe even a story that should NOT be included, but the book would be the poorer for its omission, so what the hell) then now is the time to speak. My email is [email protected], any contributions will be great.

At this point I want to quickly go on record with another word of thanks to all those who have so far assisted with the project - often far beyond what would I could reasonably ask for. To date, I have had but one refusal, a young man who didn't want to prostitute his art for the sake of the class, everyone else has just come straight back with a "what do I want" - and then come up with the goods. So, thank you to all.

The plan remains to launch the book at the Dinghy Show, once we have more details, this will be posted on here.  Bearing in mind that for a tome of this size (and weight) the P&P will not come cheap, this has to be yet another reason to come to the Show next March to collect your copy in person.

Thanks to all once again
