"Hi Warwick,\r\n\r\n1858 is a Proctor MK9 by Chippendale. By all accounts should be a good boat. Judging by the pictures she has been updated, all be it badly by the looks of it, as originally she would not have had a bow tank but a bag and no spinnaker chute either. It is also unlikely that the mast would have had spreaders on it. She looks like a good project which I am sure you will enjoy and youe will have a nice boat at the end of it.\r\n\r\nI can tell you her name is 'Renegade' but that is all. Someone else will be able to fill in the gaps for you I am sure.\r\n\r\nJez\r\n635, 2134 (Chippendale MK9b), 3719"

"Hi all,\r\n\r\nI have taken responsibility for MR 1858, Renegade...\r\n\r\nTechnically I own the boat, but at the moment it is inflicting more pain than pleasure, so like children I resort to taking responsibility rather than pride, until such time as I can take the boat out in public and feel proud of it!\r\n\r\nIt needs a lot of work - can anyone inspire me with some history and in return I will work out how to post pictures of said craft.\r\n\r\nRegards\r\n\r\nWarwick"

"OK - so the lack of response might indicate that history for 3858 is scarce?\r\n\r\nIt has been lying low and hiding in a barn for a while, but it has been repaired in the past indicating it was used (even if carelessly) in the past?\r\n\r\nHave now placed pics onto a facebook page (hope that it works)\r\n\r\nlots of work required as you will see!\r\n\r\nW"

Hope I am better with a saw than a keyboard...\r\n\r\nI tried the link below and it works when pasted into the address line but not when used in the "link" section of the comments page!?\r\n\r\nhttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1376373722649790.1073741827.100008315252814&type=1&l=0a815571f5\r\n\r\nW

"Thanks all,\r\n\r\nThe bow tank is gone - will replace with a bow bag for easier maintenance.\r\n\r\nslight concern regarding stiffness with the tank gone, and was thinking of a ""ringbeam bulkhead"" in the same plane (and indeed replacing) the deck support forward of the mast!\r\n\r\nWas going to keep the spinny chute as I might try to learn to set and fly one!(returning to dinghys after a long layoff cruising on larger boats - cruising chute anyone?).\r\n\r\nOn the subject of the mast - I have the original? procter aluminium stick (serial No A332) complete with spreaders (not as predicted) and a slightly wobbly looking drum kicker (should it have bearings - does it work? - should I keep it?)\r\n\r\nAlso - there are 2 supports on the hull either side of the mast at roughly the same height as the top of the centreboard casing - any ideas as to what they were for (being a bit thick!)\r\n\r\nMany thanks\r\n\r\nWarwick"

Thanks for all the suggestions.\r\n\r\nI have added another photo to show the blocks more clearly...\r\n\r\nIt is definitly not for toe straps (too high) and if the front of the centreboard casing had been supported it might not have cracked!\r\n\r\nI was thinking of putting a forward thwart in to:\r\na) support the front end of the centreboard casing\r\nb) give my children somewhere to step down into rather than jumping through the bottom of the hull!\r\nHas anyone done this? (ideas/photos gratefully recieved)\r\n\r\nWarwick

"No idea what the supports are for, perhaps side benches?\r\n\r\nDrum kicker, they didn't used to have bearings, just stainless bracket (thin) with spindle through; onto which wire kicker would be wound. Rope around drum to cleat somewhere."

There might have been a cross member attached the blocks and to the kingpost or to front of centreboad case. Some boats had the toestraps attached to these.
