Topic : black bands and certificates

"Now have a certificate for 3542.\r\n\r\nIt states Mainsail foot 2.475 is this the black band distance?\r\n\r\nI ask as rule 21(b) Other spars, sails,...or other gear may be used....\r\n...without invalidating certificate provided that:\r\n\r\n(iii) band measurements are unaltered.\r\n\r\nIf I use a current sail plan with 2.503 foot and boom marked accordingly, does this mean Steppenwolf is no longer a Merlin Rocket?\r\n\r\nor do I just let RYA know of new sailplan and she remains a Merlin Rocket.\r\n\r\nThanks\r\nMiles"

"The specific MR has one registered sail plan that can be used until formally changed by a new measurement certificate. (at the usual RYA admin cost). This means that the main and job must be a matched set wrt to sizes (but not sailmaker). It makes sense if you consider the possibility of a large main with a large jib from different sail plans.\r\nYour sail plan if different to that for your sails current it would appear. That is why the job and foot measurements are put on the boom so that they can be compared to the dimensions on the sails.\r\nA sail measurer will look at the measurement certificate to see what the required dimensions are for a set of sails. Using a second hand set of the wrong dimensions or submitting a new set of the wrong dimensions opens you up to protest as the class rules are part of the Rules. \r\n\r\nBest you decide what plan you want, if necessary change the measurement records through RYA and redo the black bands, boom and mast."
