I'd like to attend the march dates if it goes ahead, please!
I would've committed sooner but have only just gotten my crew back from skiing.
Kind Regards Olly

Hi Alan
The spare boat might be a great idea for us...
I wouldn't be able to say mine is going to definitely be ready in time and I would rather not pressure myself to get things ready. But I spoke to my mate who i will be sailing with and he was keen on the training event too.
Would also be great to try out another boat.
Thanks for the heads up...

I would try to make either date, though my regular crew cannot make March 9th, greatly appreciate your effort so far, Alan, in promoting this event. More training opportunities, more often, has to be the future for the class.

Hi Alan
I can do that weekend. Steve Harling of Starcross is also interested.

Hi Alan
How many more boats do you need to make it viable? And are you constrained by a deadline, or could you give it another week to try and get a few more confirmations? I'm happy to help try and drum up some more support.
Regards

Hi
I am keen but would be keen on attending the whitstable open, March might be too soon for me finishing my boat.

It's a maybe...!
If you run it in march, and my boat is ready yes...! If June or boat is not ready then no.

I echo Ricks sentiments above...!
I have some time I can spend on my boat over the next few weeks... Probably won't get a test sail in.
I'll let you know by February how I am getting on.

The dates are the toughest constraint. One suggested is very early in the year for me the other clashes with an open.
If there is a boat available to borrow I am in for sure. Mean we look at other dates?
It is an awesome venue for sailing and training? I am dead keen to try and help make things happen if I can in any way...

Bit surprised you have cancelled the training weekend so early as I am sure there will be more boats able to attend nearer the time. Is there any chance you can reconsider to give more people the chance to commit themselves.

I'm committed and feeling pretty robust.

NEW TRAINING OPPORTUNITY! I am looking to sponsor an event for Merlins this year at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNPSA). Richard ??Tricky Dicky?? Whitworth has agreed to be our lead coach and I am now canvassing for feedback on dates and expressions of interest in coming along. DATES: we can either have Richard on 8/9 March (but WPNSA will be busy ... and cold?!) or we can have him on 14/15 June (this clashes with Whitstable Open for those planning on going there). COSTS: This all depends on number of boats but is likely to be around £40-60/boat if I can drum-up 5+ boats but you will need to sort your own food (very good/cheap canteen on-site) and accommodation (lots of choice from 4 Star to Smaller B&B??s). CONTENT: open to suggestions but I am thinking of something to suit all standards so suggest we cover boat set-up/tuning, race tactics, practice races and an evening Q&A with each boat getting a personalised ??Training Plan? output from the weekend to work on at your leisure! What would you like to cover? We will need to make a decision on dates soon so please let us know if you are up for this and your preferences by the end of the weekend.

OK, it is looking good for 8th & 9th March (and I will confirm details with WPNSA and then write to all to get your final commitment.
So far I have the following expressions of interest (to varying degrees!)and would be grateful if you could confirm in principle to this date: -
David Lee Alistair Glen Ben Archer Rick Knapp Andy Hay Louise Johnson Ben Hollis Andrew Chapman Claire Clark Duncan Bell Edward Gilder Richard Stevens Mark Reddington Gareth Griffiths 'Frinck'
Once I have more robust commitment I can calculate costs and send out letters of invitation and put a poster around to local clubs.

Rick, thanks for the e-mail, I happened to have two crew so could lend you one? We may also have access to a spare boat or 2 if anyone needs one (Gareth?).
Come on everybody else, give me an update.........

OK folks, only got 4 confirmed attendees (including me!) so I am afraid I am going to have to pull the plug on this opportunity; real shame as it is a great venue. However, I will endeavour to work with the Committee to try to arrange something for 2014 that we can get into the formal Events calendar. Sorry for any disappointment but hope to see you one the water!

I meant 2015... still not got my head in this year yet!
Posted: 12/01/2014 05:28:59 By: Alan3571 |
Steve, I have been promoting this opportunity for some time and, whilst the level of interest has been good and I am happy to stump up a reasonable subsidy to cover the coaching, I can't afford to cover the full financial risk of booking the venue, training rooms, rib and other costs at my own risk on the off-chance that people might turn up if the forecast looks OK! Sorry.
