Hello Keith, discussed royalties with Alan (should I want to build off them) think it's a case of contacting Ian Holt at that time.

Gareth, at the moment I want to study the section shapes, mainly as a comparison to Wuthering Heights. Don't think there suitable a lot of handling, they're a piece of Chipstow History really.

Probably easier to make own frames from drawings, again these would be from Ian Holt these are very delicate to passed to and fro.

Have acquired Alan Jackson's building frames, templates and other parts for Steppenwolf and his Cantebury Tales variations. Saved from the bonfire and now in safe keeping.

Am interested in any information on Steppenwolf, other than what is in the design guide: progression from Dangerbat and Diamond Smiles.

Alan told me ideal crew weight 28 stone, yet design guide states "...exceptionally fast on a power reach, did not harm upwind or downwind in a breeze regardless of crew weight, but made...."

A previous post by Andy asks for current photos, does anyone have any pictures with the original spaceframe?

Many thanks, I'm trying to put together file on this piece of Chipstow history.

Miles

What are you going to do with the frames????

Will they be made available for future use by boat building class members?

Keith,

That's a great point and something I am sure all honorable Merlin Sailors, tinkerers, bimblers, builders and just genuine enthusiasts are keen as mustard to make sure all the right people are in the know.

Having been in touch with Ian Holt via yourself it has been great to get the designers perspectives on my boat.

If I were to build a boat on someone's frames and drawings, the designers input would be vital to making a great boat and their permission would be the first thing I sought.

We are very lucky that designers like yourself, Ian and Jo Richards are so helpful and still as enthusiastic as we are.

Cheers miles

Keep us all posted on your studies. I was chatting to AJ today, heading up there Thursday.

I heard Mr Callaghan has a good collection of people's drawings?

It's great to see people protecting the history of the class, from Kieth and yourself to Dougal and his book.

Pat.... would you mind if I had a copy of the shot ending in 076 - I want to indulge my desires for more transom shots!

By the way, I'm hoping to head over to lymington shortly to take some pics of 'the Dream Machine' - which is a Niane...could even be 'son of Goldie'. Do you have a transom shot of 3434 - if not, could you get me one?

Hi to Sandy

Oddly enough I was sorting files onto a new hard drive the other day and came across a picture I took at the Dalgety Bay MR event Easter 2006 which included a full side view of Steppenwolf on shore. It didn't have any obvious space frame.
I've put the pictures on Flickr.

Everyone, please note that the Steppenwolf design is the copyright of Ian Holt and his permission should be sought if boats are to be made to that design or modifications of it. I have been amazed to discover that Ian gets no royalties from any of his designs built today.
