It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that my father, Arthur Garwood passed away last week. During the 50's 60’s,70’s and 80's he was an active member of the class and even went to the first Salcombe week.
He was a member of Aldenham SC and served as Commodore along with a number of other committee duties 
He has not been actively involved with the class for some 30 years and therefore will only be remembered by the more ‘experienced’ members of the class.

Clearly I never knew your father Ian but never the less I am sorry to hear of your loss. I should think my father knew him as he too was very active in the class in the 50's through 80's.

Hi Ian, well I remember racing against your father when he had Opium ... in those days Aldenham had a substantial Merlin fleet, who's members encouraged young sailors such as yourself, Tim Fells and myself and who are still enjoying our sport 30 years on. My Father must have known him then as 'Opium' was his boat new. I guess they might have had a transaction.

Hi Ian, my heart felt sympathies on your loss. As David says, the Merlin fleet at Aldenham was the inspiration for a life long love affair with the class.  Everyone involved during the halcyon days on the 70s has left a great legacy.  I will long remember a Silver Tiller in the mid 70s that attracted over 50 boats to our little puddle and was sailed in a Force 6!  My best wishes to you and your family. Tim
