Topic : summer of '79!

Many thanks to everyone for help with 1975 (a big thank you to Richard Davis for not only the missing detail but the story behind the story - invaluable) but now things have moved on - does anyone have Class Mags or any other detail from...........1979.

The first year with big spinnakers, NSM v Summer Wine v Disguys, Nationals at famouth won by Chris Rhodes; Inlands by Robert Harris, Salcombe and the Tiller Kevin Haynes.

It could be a picture, a memory or something in print, if you've got it, can I share it?

Many thanks

Dougal

Thanks Andy....get 1979 done and I'm through into the 1980s, though I suspect that progress may slow a little then. The biggest concern now is the sheer size of the project! Just think, the 'First' MR book covered just 40 years - in a lot of ways without going into too much detail. Pure Magic intends to cover 70 years - in detail. Think War and Peace meets National georgraphic.....lots of good pictures, hull lines, details and a lot of text too!

1979 was an interesting year for me but it did not include winning the Inland Nationals. The winner was Roger Harris of HLSC.

I do have the overall results for the championships in 1973, 1975, 1976 and 1977.
I also have the sailing instructiona for the champs in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970,1973, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. Some of these contain the entry list in that year.
Please let me know if any of this information is of use to you.

Tony, Robert and to the others who have been so good as to remember what may have been embarassing moments in one's life but then sent them to me - I just hope that it's all 'In the public interest' remains a defense against libel!!

I'm now pretty much 'past' the 70s and am just about to move into the 1980s, Benedictine and Kenco Chemical sponsorship, the NSM2 but at the same time, so few members attending the AGM at the nationals that the RYA were unhappy at the vote on Mylar sails as they didn't see the numbers who voted as being 'representative'.

Please keep the memories coming - and now a 'heads up' - I'm not there yet but the next call for help will probably cover the years 1984 - 1990!

Thanks again and cheers
