Please look at the Thread 'Gently does it' - perhaps we should all post on that one really.
I know this is a duplication - but I think you should all know that Gently is nominated in the Classic Boat Magazine's awards.
Chris Barlow and Mervyn Allen have done a fantastic job on Gently. She really is an iconic boat and we are so lucky to have such talented enthusiasts to have restored her and got her out sailing again! So how about going on-line to Classic Boat and voting for her in numbers.
Wouldn't it be great to have a Merlin win this prestigious award? www.classicboat.co.uk/category-yacht-under-40ft-europe/

Hello I have been helping Chris Barlow in the restorationof Gently and I have now entered her in "CLASSIC BOAT RESTORATION OF THE YEAR" competition. I enclose a quotation from David Henshall which shows just how important Gently is to the boating scene. "IN TERMS OF RACING DINGHIES MERLIN NO.16 IS A TRUE ICON AS IT CAN BE SHOWN TO HAVE HELPED DRIVE THE INCREDIBLE POST WAR BOOM IN SMALL BOAT SAILING.. MOST BOATS OF THIS IMPORTANCE WOULD BE IN A MUSEUM, BUT THE SYMPATHETIC, "HOG UP" RESTORATION OF GENTLY WAS SKILFULLY CARRIED OUT BY CHRIS BARLOW WITH THE EXPRESS INTENTION OF SEEING THE BOAT RIGHT BACK WHERE IT BELONGS, OUT ON THE RACECOURSE. FEW BOATS INCLUDE SO MUCH INOVATION AND HAVE SO MUCH OF A STORY TO TELL; AN UNRIVALLED 4 CHAMPIONSHIP WINS AND A NEW STRAND OF SAILING DNA THAT EXTENDS INTO THE MODERN SAILING DINGHIES OF TODAY. Voting is online ; www.classicboat.co.uk/category-yacht-under-40ft-europe/ And I am hoping that you will all support me by voting for this wonderful boat, please do pass this onto anybody else who you think will be able help too. Best Regards Mervyn Allen www.classicboat.co.uk/category-yacht-under-40ft-europe

Fingers crossed! The 'Gently' story is also being considered for inclusion in the highly regarded US magazine 'Wooden Boat'!
If/when this happens, will put up a posting with details!

As the Chairman at the time when Gently was reliquished from the generous storage of Dick Batt for several years, I can vouch for the determination that Mervyn and associates showed to take 'possession' of Gently and restore her.
Merlin team should vote please.
