MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Membership stickers

After discussions at the recent AGM the committee has decided to discontinue membership stickers. Whilst the association is thriving and financially very sound we constantly look for ways to save money which allows us to direct money towards promoting the class further. In this case we save on the cost of stickers plus postage, not too mention the time involved in sending them.
Letters confirming receipt of subs will still be sent but with the magazine following the receipt. these should be used as evidence of membership. An email confirmation will be sent on request where members are attending an event and are concerned they need this.
We will continue to be vigilant to ensure people competing for Merlin trophies are paid up members consistent with
class rules. The committee will work with the RYA to ensure the appropriate changes are made to our class rules
We do appreciate some members will miss their stickers but we do feel strongly feel this decision is for the best

Can you look at making the letters available on line in the membership section of the web site, so that they can be printed on demand, saving the postage.

Maybe the sitckers could be printable too ?

I suppose they could be forged by those unscrupulous enough to enter a Merlin event without paying the sub. Event organisers should be able to cross reference the membership number with the entrant.

Cheers, John

It has been a bit of a pain if you get your certificate amended mid-year to remove corectors, for example, and you cannot transfer your membership sticker to the new certificate - I had three certificates in one year and felt that I should bring each of them to events.

Are we going to have to update our certificates to remove the box that says "membership sticker here" or will this be left alone? £15 / £25 a pop would swell the RYA coffers somewhat.

shame, i had very nearly completely covered an old transom flap in membership stickers dating back to the 1980's (came off a Smokers I had back then) only a couple more years would have done it!

John B, if you mean the membership joining (and standing order) forms, they are accessible from the homepage via "paperwork". See link here too.

I can forsee a future where we flash a code from our smartphones to prove membership and certification at events....but give it a few years, eh? Some of us still have ancient old phones....
