Topic : Merlin 3552

Time to test the knowledge of you all!!

This boat was allocated a number and registered to a Mary Cooper in 1998. It was never issued with a measurement Certificate and does not appear in the yearbook anywhere. Does anybody know what happened to it or if it was even built at all?

I would really appreciate some help on this as it is one of 4 boats with outstanding Certificates from new that I am trying to clear up for the RYA.

Thanks
Jez

According to the 1999 Year Book 3552 was a John Turner Heaven Sent design built by Tony Lock. She was called 'Struck Lucky' and owned by Mary and Shaw Cooper. I have their address and phone number at that time. Please e-mail me if you want this information.
As you say this boat number is missing from the Register of Boats in the Year Books. However the 2000 to 2006 Year Books in the Registers of Members show the owner as W S Kenyon at Hollingworth Lake SC.
In the List of Members by Boat Number in the 2007 YB a new owner is shown as Alan Robinson also at Hollingworth and Bill Kenyon is recorded as owning 3521. This information is repeated in 2008 and 2009. Again I have the phone numbers and addresses of these members at that time.

Memory a bit flaky but I seem to recall the boat being smashed up in a motor accident and Bill buying her as an insurance write off

Originally at Shoreham understand was rebuilt after mishap going around an iccy roundabout near Chi. Hence don't think she should be logged as a destroyed boat in year book any longer (was a few years back, not sure if corrected more recently)

So there's ANOTHER Heaven Sent around somewhere. I know the other 2 (Space Oddity 3544 & After Hours 3585) were both completed from Tony Lock's shells, both IIRC by Glen Truswell. If not destroyed but rebuilt and sailing somewhere does anyone know any more?

Having been in that car accident on the way to an icy snowflake event in Chichester I can clarify that this is all correct!
If you need any extra info - just ask.

OK Thanks everyone. So we can confirm that the boat was written off. It seems Bill Kenyon bought it from the Coopers as a write off and may have rebuilt it and sold it on to Alan Robinson who appears to have left the class.

I think I need to speak to Bill Kenyon next. It would be good to know where this boat is now and if it was ever rebuilt.
