Topic : Thinking of putting old sails up on ebay

Hello everyone,
I am new to the class and have just bought boat 3525 to sail up in the lake disrict at Bassenthwaite SC. This is a rowsell and morrison with a carbon superspars rig. The boat has come with 4 jibs, 2 kites and 3 mains. I only want to keep the best set as I will buy new sails next season. Is there much demand for second hand sails? If i put these up on ebay am i likely to get anyone in the class bidding on them?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

John Reekie

Hi John, Welcome to the class, I am glad 'Maid of Ply' has found a new home. My experiance with ebay and sails is that you can expect around £80 for a decent full size spinnaker and anywhere from £60 - £120 for a good suit of sails. The one problem I find is transporting them as it is not something you want to send by courier.

You will find people who are both members and non members bidding on them.

I hope you will be joining the association now. At this time of year you can join for the remainder of this and the whole of next year for just £25!! Bargin, I know.

Good Luck

Jeremy

Even fairly tatty Merlin sails seem to sell on fleabay not entirely sure who buys them, presumably people with even worse sails.

I put lots of Firebox and Laser equipment on Apollo Duck, it all went in a couple of days.

Use secondhand man on this website-that's where merlin rocket sailors will be looking.

Cheers for getting back to me guys. I am thinking of joining the class association as i fancy doing either the inlands or nationals next year and may travel to a couple of the weekend events nearest the Lake District. I will put the sails up on ebay on a 10 day auction and do a bit of advertising elsewhere as well.

Cheers John Reekie

I am going to sail locally this year and only a couple of times due to time commitments. I am aiming to figure out what needs done to the boat over the winter from these sails. The internal and deck paintwork is good for next year however the hull has a few blisters in the paint on the centreline and need redone this winter. That will be a whole new toic on the forum. Thanks for the invite. We are trying to see if Steve is around this Sunday at Bass as he would no doubt have ome good guidance for us.

Kind regards

John Reekie

Used to own 3525 about 3 / 4 years ago ...... Found blisters to the external paint on the centre line and had the white waterline redone at the time assumed it was down to keeping a wet undercover on .

I have seen that on another Rowsell Tales of the same age. It too had been sitting in it's undercover for a while.
