Why do you want people to register in order to view?

You don't have to put your own email ;-)

Fantastic set of photos of the 'match race' at the back of the fleet - but which decided the championship!

asked Chris about this today, it is so that he can keep an eye on who is using his photos and for what, press and the like. He does this out of his own interest, and asks only a small donation to Hayling Rescue (the big rib that towed at least 2 dismasted boats home an Thursday) and a bit to cover his own rib and the hours he spends loading these things up for people to view, and that only if you want a photo to down load. If you want to keep your e mail private or see a conspiracy round every courner, 1/ don't visit any web site and 2/ get out more

I have to say a great set of photos and historically, you have captured the unravelling to the final day's drama at the Nats. For me, it is rarely that this is caught on film and I think this is great. It may not be every persons cup of tea, but it is modern gladitorial end game racing. Shame Geoff and Graham did not stay mid line as the match racing would have been much harder, but with Tom's (not sure about Taxi) short experience in team racing, it would have been game on whatever, but may have been a lot harder to hold back the combatant.

We have Tania Shamus film the B14s whe we can get hold of her and when the driver will do as she asks we get her in the mix and she rarely gets in the way if ever but catches the jousting of the Bs and as a result we have some great shots. These photos have got in close and you can see spome of the body langauge which expresses the situation.

Dowmside, is yet again we have a lack of daily reports, so offering the sponsors maximum exposure and so return backing. Will we se a full report tomorrow with an emphasis on the last day's end game?

Bye for now

Yachts and Yachting have posted up some of my pics along with a very brief write up by myself about the match race. Sailweb have also posted a day by day together with a couple of pics. I e-mailed the Daily Sail last Monday (2nd day) offering them photos and haven't had a reply. I will lobby a few others and see if they are interested. I was only there 2 days, so can't really give a full account of the entire event. If someelse wants to do a detailed write up and accompany them with some of my pics, I am happy to donate the pics.
It would be great if Geoff and Graham could write a piece individually, accompanying the pics with their thoughts or intents at each stage, giving some insight into being involved in a duel like this?

Thanks for your kind comments regarding the pics.

Regarding the need to enter an e-mail address, I was hoping to just monitor commercial interest to try and stop them getting ripped off. If, as suggested above you can enter any details, I guess its it is not worth doing.

With regards to getting photographers on the water, I shot all my pics from my RIB that was there primarily as a safety boat sweeping up the rear, which allowed me to capture the match race. Unfortunately the guy I had been allocated, was very nervous about getting to close to the action so I didn't feel I could push it. So most of my shots are from some distance.
I gather that there was going to be a photographer on Wednesday, but he didn't have a boat and the club ribs were already busy with other stuff besides the Merlins. A request was made for him to be put on a rescue boat, but declined by the safety officer (rightly so in my view) due to the ribs being to small to have 3 people on board and then maybe needing to pick up 2 crew from a Merlin in trouble.

I meant to write Geoff and Taxi write up a report from their respective viewpoints.
I am sure it would make very interesting reading.

Chris

The key shots witha write up could be a headline article in Y&Y and other publications, as this is very rare where a photographer has been able to get the crucial moments. I would suggest contacting Gail or Mark Jardine direct to mute the idea.

Bye for now

Before we get too carried away with this idea let us just pause and reflect. We know from other topics on this forum (and private reports from the champs) that feelings are raw about the last race and the events that led up to it. Let's be sensitive to people's feelings; I suggest that we let a lot of water flow under a lot of bridges before going any further. I am as keen as anyone to have a blow by blow account, but now is not the time. John Cooper

I think it would make a fascinating article if Geoff and Taxi would be prepared to assist with it. Without their input it would be difficult to write as I was a long way off and having to keep an eye on the rest of the fleet. My primary job was to offer assistance if needed as a safety boat. I didn't really see much of the race tactically etc , I just snapped away when I could.

Mark Jardine was very keen to get some shots, so I am sure a well composed article with input from both opponents would be well received.

If Geoff or Taxi are reading this and fancy getting involved, drop me a line [email protected]. Any photo's you would like for your own collection also let me know.

JC. A fair point and it is certainly not my intention to cause any upset.
However these opportunities come along rarely and if both parties could jot down thoughts and memories whilst they are still fresh in their minds with a view to doing something later, that would be great.

great photos! if I run them in the slideshow on the website, however, they are not all in quite the right order, which is a shame because otherwise it would be possible really to see how the battle progressed. anyway congrats to the sailors and the photographer!

I have now put them in chronological order with the crops alongside the original. You should now be able to view them in the sequence they were taken. It is quite confusing without a blow by blow explanation.
