MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Shoreham Open this coming weekend

Please note Shoreham is the last sea open of the year if you haven't already done your required event for the ST. Last chance too for some practice before the nationals.

Alan Chaplin will be our PRO and setting a 'proper' course for ourselves and the Fireballs who we share with again. 2 races per day, 2pm start on Sat.

Back by popular demand after a 1 year absence is the curry evening. We have free parking right next to the clubhouse and free camping on site (please pitch up behind the main club house away from private houses).

Link to forecast is below. Let me know if have any questions.

....and to give you all time to get your heads round it the course will be a slight mod of the normal olympic one in that the sequence will be triangle sausage sausage and triangle with the first race being finished at the leeward mark . This is to reduce the waiting time between races by enabling me to start the Fireballs second race before the Merlins have finished - I wouldn't be able to do that if the Merlins last lap were a sausage as they would be running down towards ( and possibly through ) the start line .

A few years ago the leading boats in both fleets went round in exactly the same time and in planing conditions too .But the Fireball tail-enders were a little quicker than their Merlin counter-parts !

You'd need lots of marks to make a nice round burger Andrew. Might get a bit dizzy going round in circles too ;-)
