Having just read the summer mag. ,can someone explain the thinking behind the weight reduction proposed for boats helmed by over 70s? As I am now perilously close to becoming such an ancient mariner sailing a classic boat that doesnt carry that many correctors, it seems a strange idea.Is it so that us old guys can pull the boat up the slipway at the end of the day?-its a two person boat and not very heavy as it is.Or is this the thin end of the wedge in a move to reduce the weight throughout the class?-a really bad idea as it would render heavier crews even less competitive.

There are, of course, serious Human Rights considerations here. If the change is passed then the Association is discriminating against younger people which must be infringing their human rights - the only logical solution would then be to allow everyone to take the weight out or ask the old boys to put it back in!!

Surely it is Alan and William having a "giraffe"?

This proposal (and it's proposer/seconder) made me laugh out loud as I read the magazine. Brilliant work!

If it goes through, then we should propose that all past national champion helms should add back 10 kilo in weight for each championship won.

Alan proposed the idea at last year's AGM and obviously it was so minuted. It made me laugh too mind when I read it, and I'm sure will be a welcome break in the middle of all the other changes. I have enough trouble keeping up with him at Shoreham, and I'm only 33....

I quite like this counter proposal - I think that would mean Alan adding 30Kg to his boat!!!

I'd like to recommend an amendment. Either a combined age rule, or an accompanying parent restriction.

As I have arranged to crew for Al Warren in the 2016 Nationals, I would like to second the amendent regarding:

I was always in favour of if the combined helm and crew Weight was over a set limit then you could lower the weight of the boat.

Nice. We had some halfwit in the 12 class suggest that old boats should be allowed bigger sail. No idea how you get a rater rig into you elderly somewhat fragile river boat.

If this goes through with both the 70 year old helmsman AND 140 years in the boat I shall ask my good friend John Cooper if I can crew for him next year cos' we are both 1942 war babies. Also we are indeed finding it hard to drag lead up slipways.
