I have just purchased my 1st merlin - 3278 a rowsell built nsm2 
Have sailed her twice now on our little puddle and wow i'm hooked :)
Does anyone know the history of this boat - she is presently without a name, would love to find out what she was originallly called?

The year book says she was (2010 - we do not seem to have the 2011 year book yet!)(Join the association - MROA - see this web site - and you will get a year book etc.)she is listed as being called called Perpendickular lets hope you can keep her that way sailing! Good luck.

Hi, I was the 3rd owner of 3278, she was originally called Past Emotion, and was built for one of the guys at North Sails,and sailed out of Hamble, the original rig (and the one I sold her with was a needle spar mast, rod rigging, with a stuff luff and parrott perch) She was a very fast and stiff boat, light blue hull colour, I sold her when she was about 3 years old to someone from a club in the lake district.

She has gone full circle since 2008 I bought her down in Devon and she is now back at HOAC next door to Broadwater , has just had a back to bare wood and two pack refurb - hull is now Red and White

I think it belonged to Peter Baines who worked at North. Now sailing X boats succesfully.

Well I bought her from the guy at Windemere in 1991?, still equipped with the Needlespar mast and North sails, still called Past Emotion, still pale blue. I raced her at Wembley and had the O'Neills refit her with Proctor? spars, raking rig and Morrisons? I moved to Grimsby in 1993 and in the absence of Merlins, I sold her and moved to Albacores. Now in Bahrain and mssing my dinghy racing but enjoying golf at Awali Golf Club!
