About ten years ago I sailed a Laser in similar conditions on Lake Wanaka in South Island, New Zealand. It's a huge lake surrounded by high mountain peaks. The young lad renting the Lasers out for his Dad took one look at my grey hair and put a small sail up but I persuaded him to change it for the normal one. Lake Wanaka is at least fifteen miles long and with the wind blowing straight down the lake there were some big waves. After an hour of thrilling high speed sailing I came ashore wondering why I gave up dinghy sailing for gliding. No capsizes but I didn't try gybing!.
