Faced with the exciting prospect of naming my first new Merlin, how do I make sure I choose a name that has not previously been taken?

Dear Tim,
Hopefully you've signed up as an Association member and should have our Year Book giving names. That should remove any danger of duplicates-I think the RYA ask for three names in case someone in the pipeline may have gazumped you!

Thanks Chris - I am a signed up member but have yet to see the year book.

Tim If you would like to e-mail me with your favoured names I will check them for duplication in the Year Books. Tony

How about a Shakespear quote - "One fell swoop"

David - seeing as how you and I can have our own personal reminiscence...she might end up being called Fragile :)
How's the trawler?

he might get duffed up on that Shakespear quote. But Merlins are all pretty ones.

If it's a Canterbury Tales, then shouldn't Chaucer get a look in rather than that upstart Will Shakespeare?

Bear in mind you have to dress up as the name!

Blimey, what an erudite bunch you all are. Seeing as how most of my previous vessels have been named after body parts / functions, this is quite some step up for me!
Good to see Barnsie has discovered Wikipedia :)
