Not sure any dogs will be competing in the olympics but does anybody know if you buy tickets for it how do you actually physically see the racing going on

On the goggle box where you get close ups. If you watch "from the stands" then you need good binos and a steady hand to see anything. Sailing is not really a spectator sport unless you are in amongst the action which is really not on as your boat might bump into a competitor who wouldn't benefit from you doing turns! The TV technology will be superb and probably put you in the action whilst sitting on your comfy chair and drinking beer at local prices rather than £5/pint+. The drawback might be a crappy producer who knows nothing about the sport and will cut to prone air pistol which give so many that adrenalin rush.

Seb Coe on the radio tonight was sounding a tad desperate about ticket sales from which he was hoping 25% of budget income was to come from.  There are some sports which have only a tiny following and I guess he hopes that he will not have to do what the Chinese did and bus in masses to fill the seats in view of TV cameras.

On a slightly different note - on the tube to work yesterday I almost dropped my bowler hat when reading the London Metro free paper - "Yesterdays news today" - there was a big pic of Stew Blithell in his 470 promoting the olympics. That big grin gets everywhere!

I, for one, was fully unsatisfied with the TV experience, largely due to the 'commentators' being completely clueless. I always said I would go to watch in 2012 but now I'm unsure this will be any better. Could anybody relate their experiences? Can you see anything from the stands? Isn't there a spectator boat or something?

By the look of the conditions attached to ticket sales it might be better to find an unofficial spot to watch from and take a good telescope.  At least you will be able take your own food and drink, a mobile phone and camera and have a bit of fun without the Olypic STASI bearing down on you.

The good news if you live near Richmond Park is that the Olympic cycling road race will be going through the park - twice.  No tickets required and close as you like to the action.  Admittedly past you at 30mph and off into the distance, but I will go and watch.  Sailing, well, all taking place out in Weymouth Bay, what chance do you have of seeing anything meaningful?  Tickets for a big screen event?  Might as well see it in a pub.

I watched the International Canoe Worlds a few years ago on a day when they were sailing actually in the harbour are at Portland and even positioned reasonably close on the nearest viewpoint, very little of the action could be worked out even with the help of 10x50 binos.  If the Olympic courses are further out in the bay then no chance at all.

Hi all, I'm down in weymouth and there is still abit of confusuion as to whats gonna happen next year.  As far as I understand it the tickets are for the Nother Gardens(behind WSC) which will give you a reasonable view of the medal races, which are apparently gonna be held in Newton's Cove.  There will be big screens on the beach which are gonna be free to watch.  
Thats how I understand it anyway.
