Does anyone have a lifting rudder kicking around their garage that they no longer need? I know the fixed ones are preferred these days but sailing in the creeks we'd rather have a lifting one. It doesn't have to be in perfect condition by any means, just sturdy enough for the job. Cheers |
As Merlins don't have rules about rudder shape, you can use anything big and deep enough. Not many people selling them around here as a new Winder one is £500+ complete. |
A 4k one might be a bit extreme, but anything off a Fireball, N12, Lark or similar will suffice. An RS 400/200 one will also do, heavy but bombproof! |
I wouldn't say RS400 rudders are bombproof, I have a broken blade right here... |
Its on the Cherub site - see the link below http://www.uk-cherub.org/doku.php/tech/foils |
And on the Twelve site its this link http://www.national12.org/downloads/amateur_building-2004v1-foil_boom.pdf |
Snap! - I mean about the broken RS400 rudder. |
I was crewing for Dave - Kite up force 3-4 tight reach and rudder parted company! I wouldn't trust another Rs400 rudder! |
