Topic : Details About My Boat

I am the current owner of 3496 built in 1992 by Ron Hall, at the Bala August regatta I found that Smokin had once been called Seren Y Mor can anyone tell me was this the original name, and can anybody tell me what colour scheme she was originaly painted in. Now deck stepped (originaly hog stepped) which is not going to change, I have to confess to being a bit weired about changing boat names, so I can see a potential revival of the original colours and name being on the cards.

I'm sure it was always a blak boat, it was origionally Seren Y Mor but I don't remember it being signwritten on the boat. Henry Wright had it built, basically a copy of Nick Aubrey's Empty Pockets but with a thwart.

Steve Essex subsequently bought the boat and changed the name. This would have been about 8 or 9 years ago so i'd say it's been Smokin for longer than it was Seren Y Mor!

Thanks Chris, I have a gap in my year books between 1997 and 2003 so I am unable to clarify the year the name changed.

From my memory of this boat I believe that it has always been black, with a yellow pinstripe.

As stated above 3496 was designed and built by R Hall. She is an Empty Pockets design. She was originally registered by her first owners H & W A Wright of Bala SC with the name Seren Y Mor.
The 1995 year book shows the owner as only H Wright at Carsington SC.
She had a new owner by 1997 called S Hoare also at Carsington.
Her next owner is recorded in the 1998 year book as Steve Essex at Hollingworth and her name was changed then to Smokin'.
The 2002 YB Shows another new owner as Chris Green at Midland SC.
She was no longer owned by a MROA member when the 2004 YB was published.
The 2007/8/9 Year Books shows her owner as Gerry Burnham a member at Cookham but with an address in France.
I hope this information helps.

I think we came sailed back from Gurston and through the Bag durring the very windy Salc.2000 week. We were sailing side by side with half a boat length between us. I remember Smokin was very quick getting on to the plane. We were sailing 3316 Blow Job 2, a bit slower of the mark, but stayed on longer and managed to pass Smokin.
