Topic : Auto puller

I'm just about to rig for a spinnake, I have nothing existing since its pretty much a new build. It would seem logical to link the puller to some other item associated with the spinnaker (i.e. halyard) to ensure that its on when the spinnaker is up. I do expect to forget the puller and would rather not forget on a windy day. Am I missing something?

I thought about this a few years ago. I didn't beause it would add enormous friction to the halyard.

Puller and snodger connected? Might possibly work, but the only way to take up the difference between them is to have a reverse purchase, which makes the last part of the pull very difficult.

You could add the barber haulers and twinning lines to that same rope too! The new 'one string' could do all 4 at once!

The crew should pull the barber hauler on during the bearaway so the jib is working properly during the hoist.

Watch this space for JT's new automatic pole launcher/snodger/puller system!

I don't think having a snodger/puller line is viable either becasue you want the puller set and ready before the hoist. If you got the kite up and the pole on you don't want the kite flapping while you set the puller/snodger. This is unavoidable because the puller moves quite a lot of rope.

Also of course the puller is intended to oppose the snodger, and if the kite did fill before the puller was set you could end up with a problem in strong winds.

The best ways around this problem are a permanent marker, a crew with a good memory and time on the water practicing proceedures.
