Thanks guys
I had a call from Richard Parslow yesterday regarding Colin's 'Loosers Guide to Salcombe'.
He, like I, thinks it is absolutely brilliant!
Well done Mr Treasurer, you have made us laugh out loud and made us think of the issues that it takes to loose or win?

I found sitting on the bottom of your upturned boat in the middle of the start line was a great way of keeping at the tail end of the fleet lasy year. Was a little on the scary side in that wind though as I had a gunwhale go past at full tilt missing me by about an inch!

It is a very amusing article though. Thanks again to all who put the time in to making a great magazine. When I have something interesting to add I surely will.

Well done Pat, well done Colin, glad you kept Megan off the keys long enough to type it.

Couple of other Salcombe top tips from my long experience at the back end, go for a flying start at the Watch House end with the tide under you and the black flag flying, take 15 mins of falling back through the fleet on a sniggly run to Yalton before looking over the transom for weed and the masterly one of pull out the transom with a fixed rudder going over to Mill Bay on the Saturday. Oh, and if you are going to have your daily altercation with the fuel barge, why not try doing it with the boat on its side and a strong ebb tide?

Yes, it's a good idea to keep a watch out for weed. On the run when it all seems quiet, lift your rudder up to make sure, then let a gust broach you into a moored yacht. Time it right and you can break the crew's thumb AND the gunwhale with one hit. Whilst the crew is busy trying not to faint, you can then get the kite tangled with the bowsprit of another yacht.

Great magazine Pat, thanks.

More rudder-related mayhem - end up on the inside berth without rights as it all gets shallow in sunny Cove and have to take off rudder with kite up before it grounds. Do 2 full 360's before accepting defeat and dropping kite to put it back on again. Fail to secure elastic holding it down. 20 minutes later rudder jumps off transom into the water. Do 2 more pirouettes rudderless trying to retrieve it in full sight of SYC RIB full of people who appear helpless with mirth. Fortunately for posterity not on this occasion the one containing Demelza and her camera. I'd better write the next article on this subject myself...

Presumably this is before the transom is removed ...

Personally, having sailed at Salcombe as a helm for one open meeting, started two races, but only once crossing the start line but not making the windward mark, I am actually quite apprehensive. Hope Jo has a sense of humour ...

let me know if you dont get them this week and will send out replacements , as you say could be a W thing

mine came last week. Really good as usual.

nothing wrong with Ws although children usually disagree.

"C"s are commonly thought to be best. You can observe the A/B then get yours out of the way. After that it is merely casual observation of the "D" plus

Megan

Thanks for the other mag - however the one that arrived today was another copy of the spring one!

We see plenty of Jon G here anyway without needing two copies of the magazine with him on the front, albeit its not very often that we see that end of his boat on the water!!
