Hi

Just fitting a puller on my Merlin anyone have a rough idea how far forward the pulley should be in the deck? dont want to cut a while to find its to far forward or back??

It'll probably be dictated by the position of a cross beam under the foredeck - needs to go mast side of it so the pulleys can go back to the bottom of the post without fouling it. I don't think there is an absolute 'right' measurement -further forward the better?

What boat is this on?

On boats built with a puller it does meet up with the cross member about half way along the foredeck. Far be it for me to disagree with Mssrs Turner and Rowsell, but i do wonder if this is really necessery provided the king plank is man enough for the job. There is no cross load involved with the puller, all it does is put the king plank in compression.

So, summing up i'd say that my priority would be to get the puller block in the place where it works best for the rig. If that meets up with the cross member then so be it.

Its a thin ice. there appears to be no cross member just one beefy running the full length

It should be fine. If it's a thin ice it must have been deck stepped from new??

The centreline of the puller sheave is 21&1/4" from the front of the mast on Ministry of Pleasure.
